Confidentiality
This is a topic that many children, adults and families ask about.
In providing the best treatment for you, sometimes we have to break confidentiality and reach out to a loved one or trusted individual. We only do this to ensure that you are kept safe, and never intend for it to cause you harm.
We have an obligation, and more so a desire, to keep you safe and out of harms way. So, sometimes we have to share what you've reported to your clinician that is deemed too risky to not share. Normally, this would relate to dark thoughts or suicidal thoughts, but can also relate to concerns regarding your general health. Your clinician will always report to you that risk concerns need to be shared, so that it will not be a surprise to you. If in any doubt, speak to your clinician before you disclose any information, or ask them to explain confidentiality to you.
